Background: One of the nation’s largest health care systems is in the process of a digital transformation and seeks a Director of Data Engineering. Director of Data Engineering will lead a large team that will be responsible for data processing and transformation so that it can be utilized for Data Science and Analytics initiatives. This is a highly visible, strategic, and thought leadership role reporting into the Chief Data Officer.
What Will You Do:
- provide strategic thought leadership on Azure and non-Azure tools that will add greatest value with regards to data ingestion, processing, and transformation to support a Data Science function
- define and recommend optimal data ingestion and integration strategies within Azure cloud environment
- champion best practices to automate ETL and ELT processes and data pipelines to efficiently ingest data
- lead operational efforts to productionize machine learning algorithms and BI reports
- provide guidance on data management and data governance
- lead the evaluation, implementation, and deployment of emerging tools and process for data engineering within a Data Science and Analytics environment
- mentor and lead a large team of data engineers, data architects, and dataOps professionals

Responsibilities/Experience:
- 6+ years of proven data engineering experience with automation of data pipelines processing, ETL / ELT, batch / stream processing within a cloud environment (Azure, AWS, GSP)
- solid understanding of Azure cloud environment with regards to data ingestion and storage to support Data Scientists and Analytics (Azure Data Factory (ADF), Azure Data Lake (Gen1 / Gen2), Databricks, Azure Synapse, Delta Lake)
- thorough understanding of Delta Lake and Spark / Hadoop platforms is a highly desired
- prior people management within a Data Engineering discipline is a MUST
- great technical, presentation, and communication skills
